3D Modeling
AXIA has implemented Revit Architecture and SketchUp software into our daily practice. This software allows us to create accurate 3D models of our projects which enhances our design capabilities. The architectural and construction industry is moving towards Building Information Modeling (BIM) which allows for better coordination and efficiencies between the architect, client, consultants and contractors. With coordinated documents and visualization graphics, AXIA is excited about the possibilities that this new technology gives us to provide our clients with the quality projects and value that we are known for.

ON THE BOARDS
| ||||
Wise Residence:
The owner went through an extensive nine month search of architects in the Western U.S. to find an architect who could help him realize his vision. We are proud that he selected AXIA. The plan has evolved into two projects on the 140 acre wine estate, a main residence and a second unit on a distant site. He is seeking a design solution which is uniquely suited to this spectacular site and his own unique lifestyle.
San Felipe Ranch:
This is a residence and complex of related buildings on a large and pristine ranch at the base of Mount Hamilton. Much of the ranch will be under a conservation easement.
MacArthur Street Subdivision:
The 30 unit single family detached housing development received positive feedback by the City of Sonoma Planning Commission in early December 2005. The project is focused on providing market rate affordable housing to families in a traditional neighborhood setting. The project will now continue the regulatory processing and work towards breaking ground in Spring 2007.
Mayacama Residence:
This is a residence on a secluded site at the Mayacama Golf Club. The design responds to the strict design principles and “Tuscan” tradition developed by Mayacama. This tradition emphasizes using natural materials, simple, low forms and orienting living spaces to the outdoors. Their cottage design has been modified to relate to a unique topography and view orientation.
Ukiah High School Modernization - Phase 2:
AXIA is starting work on Phase Two which will modernize five classroom buildings. The final Phase Three will follow with improvements to the physical education complex, cafetorium, library and administration building.
Willowside Middle School Modernization:
AXIA was selected by the Oak Grove Union School District to modernize and expand their chartered middle school at Hall and Willowside Roads in Santa Rosa. The original structure was built in the 1960’s as an ‘open plan concept’ and, since teaching paradigms have changed, the building is less able to meet current needs. We are working with the school staff and district personnel to reconfigure existing spaces and their uses and to add a multi use classroom to handle school growth and programs.
West Entry Project:
The West Entry Project’s environmentally sensitive design includes photovoltaics, natural site features, solar shading, sustainable materials, and a strong orientation to pedestrian activity. This 10 acre parcel integrates 106 residential units with 30K square feet of commercial to create an exciting mix of unit types and sizes.

Downey Residence Additions, Barn and Wine Storage/Garage:
We recently completed three projects to a home and ranch which we planned and remodeled ten years ago: an office conversion/addition for the owners, a new barn and a garage/wine storage building. The wine storage is buried into the hill and attached to a garage/shop with bonus space over. The barn was designed with a pre-manufactured steel frame and infill by the owner.
Alexander Valley School - Phase 1:
The modernization of this rural elementary school will provide needed site infrastructure, building utility & service upgrades and teaching support and administrative spaces to one of the oldest elementary school districts in Sonoma County.
Pepperwood Environmental Education Center:
AXIA worked on a concept study for an Environmental Education Center funded by the Pepperwood Foundation. The focus of the Center is related to the preservation of a magnificent property in Sonoma County, research related to it’s ecology and education. The Center is affiliated with the Santa Rosa Junior College and California Academy of Science. This was a green project.
Hewlett Guest Cabin:
This is a small guest cabin associated with the 1902 vintage main house. It is located in a remote area in the Sierras and is off the grid. The design of the guest cabin is strongly influenced by the 1902 design.
Monroe Elementary:
This project redefined the entrance and administrative facilities of this 1960’s school. The project also modernized the multi-use building and allows for the potential expansion of the food service facilities.
Austin Wine Storage And Second Unit:
The owners sought an amateur winery and wine storage “cave” and second unit on a spectacular site adjacent to their existing home. The wine facility is dug into the knoll with a Second Unit above. Ample decks offer spectacular views toward Franz Valley and Mt. St. Helena. The design complements the existing Bavarian style home while offering a contemporary interpretation of the elements.
Grant and Valley Vista Elementary Schools Modernization:
Completed in the summer of 2006, a modernization project for two schools in the Petaluma City Schools school district upgraded interior finishes, brought the schools up to current accessibility standards, upgraded the mechanical, electrical and fire alarm systems, provided new roofing, and gave the schools a fresh coat of exterior paint.
Bel-Aire Multi-Use Building:
This project, completed in August 2006, provides a new multi-use building on the existing Bel Aire Elementary School campus in Napa. Features of the building include a multi-use room for school activities and lunch service, a food serving area, storage and new faculty and student toilet rooms.
Piner High School Library:
The Piner High School Library has been redesigned to accommodate new technologies and curriculum. A large roof monitor was installed over the central reading room to provide day lighting and enhance a dark space. A new entry reorients the Library toward the center of the campus.
Piner High School Culinary Arts Institute:
Completing a 10 year phased modernization of the campus, the old Administration Building has been completely remodeled to house a state of the art teaching facility for the growing Culinary Arts program.
Brookhill Elementary Multi Use Modernization:
The existing building constructed in the 70's with a 70-foot square roof with 20' x 20' exterior spaces at each of the four corners. The modernization enclosed these spaces to add a kitchen, student toilets, a music classroom and badly needed storage space. Natural daylighting was added as well as enhanced acoustics surfaces. An outdoor eating area was expanded to provide an attractive area that is easily supervised by staff.
Napa Valley Language Academy:
Completed in the spring of 2005, this campus modernization and expansion was warmly received by the students and staff. The new master plan adds considerable efficiency and clarity to the various organizations that share the campus. The new library and multi-purpose buildings set the stage for a future courtyard, anchoring the east end of the school.
